Glee Box Set

TV series come and go. Some will last no more than a few episodes while others will captivate an audience and really become a part of people’s homes. This is precisely what the musical comedy-drama television series Glee has done to the public in the United States.

Glee is a series that focuses on the high school glee club New Directions. The club competes on the show choir competition circuit, but it is the issues and relationships that really intrigue audiences. Each member displays emotions, sexuality and is constantly dealing with social issues a vast amount of people can relate to.

Creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan first brought the series to light as a film. But as the idea transformed into a television series, it first made the airwaves on May 19, 2009 with its pilot episode. The first season received favorable reviews from critics as it aired from September 9, 2009 to June 8, 2010.

In fact, its first season was nominated for a whopping 19 Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, six Satellite Awards and an incredible number of 57 additional awards. Not bad for a show based off of an often referred to unpopular clique in high school.

What really makes this show pop is the balance director Ryan Murphy brings in regards to the music. There is a balance between show tunes and chart hits that captivates the audience. As a result, you will find renditions of the songs covered in Glee everywhere from the iTunes Store to American Idol to actual Glee albums that have been released by Columbia Records.

Although it is a television series, the albums have had remarkable success with over 13 million digital single sales and five million album sales. In addition, there are DVD and Blu-Ray releases, an iPad application, a young adult book series and even a karaoke game for the Wii.

It is impossible to get anywhere without seeing Glee. It has truly taken the world by storm literally overnight. The second season took off on September 21, 2010 and had just as much success as it won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy once again. Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer added to this with Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress and Actor.

In order for a show to really make it, it has to be able to connect with the audience. Glee is a unique show that really captivates viewers and leaves them wanting more. And for this reason, there are no signs of the show slowing down any time soon.
